New food store gets go-ahead
8 April 2010
Property developers, Abbey Manor Capital Partners, are celebrating after being given the go-ahead to build a new supermarket in Yeovil.
South Somerset District Council’s Area South committee has granted planning permission for a new 15,000 sq. ft. retail store, along with 97 car parking spaces, on Fusion Park in West Hendford.
It means that around 35 new jobs could be created in Yeovil with the successful bid for planning which was first applied for last year.
The food store will form part of the phased regeneration of the Fusion Park site, which is just off Yeovil’s town centre.
AMCAP has indicated that future phases could include other retail and leisure uses including a family pub, restaurant and hotel.
The company's managing director, Jason Mills, said: "This is great news. There is strong operator interest for a new food store in the town and we now have a deliverable site to satisfy this requirement."
Last year Abbey Manor secured full planning consent for a new roundabout access into Fusion Park on West Hendford.
It is understood that AMCAP is in advanced commercial discussions with deep discount food stores including Alid, Lidl, Netto and Farm Foods.
Demolition works of the existing office and warehouse buildings on-site is expected to start shortly.
